Establishment of a European
information system on forest genetic resources
Activity 1.1a: Development of Terms of Reference for a national focal point
Terms of Reference (ToR) were developed for a national focal point in collaboration with the EUFORGEN National Coordinators. The ToR defines the responsibilities of a national focal point as well as expertise and technical skills needed to carry out the tasks. (Activity leader: Bioversity International)
Activity 1.1b: Nomination of national focal points
The EUFORGEN National Coordinators were asked to nominate the national focal point. Bioversity International also approached its contact persons in those countries, which are not yet joined EUFORGEN. A total of 35 countries have nominated their national focal points (as of April 2009). (Activity leader: Bioversity International)
Activity 1.1c: Development of a MoU for sharing and using data
Principles for sharing and using national FGR data will be outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Draft MoU has been developed in the collaboration with the EUFORGEN Steering Committee. (Activity leader: Bioversity International)
Activity 1.2: Workshop on FGR inventories in Europe
A workshop on the documentation of in situ gene conservation of forest trees in Europe was organized in Birkerød, Denmark on 23-24 October 2007. The participants included the national focal points, representatives of the EUFORGEN Networks, invited speakers and the project partners. The workshop discussed the present FGR documentation efforts in European countries and made several recommendations for the development of the EUFGIS information system. (Activity leader: SNS, Denmark)
Activity 1.3: Final project meeting
A final meeting will be organized in Vienna in mid-2010 to bring together the national focal points to discuss the results of the project and further development of the information system. End-users and other relevant stakeholders will be also invited to join the meeting, which will be also the official launch event of the information system. Results of two case studies (see Work Package 2) will be also reported to the national focal points and other participants during the meeting. (Activity leader: BFW, Austria)
Activity 1.4: Dissemination of the project outputs
Information on the progress and outputs of the projects are being disseminated to end-users and other relevant stakeholders through other similar various newsletters and journals, the project website and the EUFORGEN website. Public awareness material has also been prepared and the project partners have presented updates on the project activities at various meetings and other events. (Activity leader: SNS, Denmark)
